Analysis: Upamecano was one of the few bright spots for France in the first half alongside William Saliba, anchoring a back line that came under heavy pressure with Senegal's best opportunity stemming from a Kalidou Koulibaly clearance that nearly caught Les Bleus off guard before things settled down after halftime. He played a major role in tightening things up defensively as France's second-half resurgence showed on both ends of the pitch, finishing with six tackles (five won), three interceptions and one chance created. Upamecano was arguably the biggest reason France stayed composed and found a way back into the match, as the center-back duo was the only unit performing at the required level during a difficult opening 45 minutes.
