Townsend will leave Ipswich Town at the end of his contract this summer following two years with the club, the club announced.

Analysis: Townsend joined from West Brom in August 2024 but saw his time at Portman Road severely disrupted by injury, making just six Premier League appearances in 2024/25 before a knee injury sustained in August 2025 effectively ended his second season before it began. Townsend departs having been unable to contribute as much as both he and the club would have hoped due to the persistent physical setbacks, and heads into free agency this summer in search of a new challenge after a two-year stay that never truly got off the ground due to misfortune with injuries.
