Out Thursday
Jones is out for Thursday's match against Qatar due to a muscle injury, according to manager Jesse Marsch, per Matthew Scianitti of TSN.
Analysis: Jones will not be an option for Canada's second match of the group stage, as the defender will instead miss out due to a muscle injury. Luckily for the team, this is unlikely to shake up much, as he did not feature in their opener, instead unused from the bench after a previous injury. A return could come in the final group stage match against Switzerland, adding a bit more depth to the bench.
Returns to full training
Jones (undisclosed) returned to full training with the Canadian national team Thursday, Joshua Kloke of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jones has taken a step forward in his recovery process, nearing a potential World Cup appearance, although he may initially be involved as a substitute given that he hasn't played since January. Depending on Jones' and Moise Bombito's (undisclosed) status, there could be an opportunity for someone like Joel Waterman or Luc De Fougerolles to produce in the back line in the first few World Cup games.
